Intel Corporation Senior Vice President and Chairman of Intel China Wang Rui
AsianFin -- Intel Corporation Senior Vice President and Chairman of Intel China, Wang Rui, has noted in Chengdu that Intel remains committed to China's development, providing better and more reliable product services.
This is the first public comments by Intel China after facing severe challenges, including poor performance, in the second half of this year.
Wang further emphasized that Intel will continue to develop the Chinese market. China's ongoing promotion of high-level opening up and high-quality development core policies are also the foundation and driving force for Intel's long-term development in China. By 2030, generative AI will contribute approximately $7 trillion to the global economy, with China accounting for about $2 trillion, nearly one-third of the global total.
"This highlights China's important position in the global digital economy and the potential of new quality productivity. Behind all this is the continuous advancement of semiconductor technology, which drives the growth of computing power and lays a solid foundation for the development of the digital world," said Wang Rui.
In the fiscal year 2023, Intel's total revenue was approximately $54.2 billion, with revenue from the Chinese market accounting for 27% of Intel's total revenue, according to annual reports.
In the server market, according to publicly available statistics, Intel's share in the server CPU market is roughly around 65%.
Intel holds the largest market share in China's PC and server CPU market, making both the Chinese market crucial for Intel and Intel important for China.
According to Intel's forecast, it aims to ship 100 million AI PC devices next year, a 150% increase compared to the 40 million units targeted for 2024. By 2030, Intel expects to have over 100 ISV customers for its AI PCs, more than 300 AI PC applications, and over 500 optimized AI models. Additionally, from Xeon, Arc, to Gaudi and other product lines, Intel will fully commit to the AI industry, applying it to scenarios such as data centers and edge computing.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger stated that, much like the internet wave 25 years ago, AI will fundamentally reshape the role of technology in daily life and work. Every device will become an AI device, and every company will become an AI company.
On October 28, Intel announced the expansion of its Chengdu packaging and testing base. In addition to the existing packaging and testing for client products, it will add packaging and testing services for server chips and establish a customer solutions center to enhance the efficiency of the local supply chain, increase support for Chinese customers, and improve response speed.
During the speech, Wang further explained that Intel's announcement to expand the Chengdu packaging and testing base project will accelerate the support of Intel's local industrial chain and deepen and enhance Intel's support for Chinese customers. This comprehensive service for Chinese customers is based on long-term development, and the expansion of the Chengdu packaging and testing base is the best example.
This New Quality Productivity Technology Ecosystem Conference is the largest technology ecosystem event in Intel China's history, with participating partners including Lenovo, Inspur, HP, Microsoft, Montage, and other manufacturers. On the same day, Bloomberg reported that Qualcomm's interest in acquiring Intel has cooled, and it may instead focus on certain parts of Intel's business, participating through equity investment, which is expected to restore Intel's long-term stable position.
"Today we gather here to share a new opportunity to seize the era's opportunities. What remains unchanged is our continued deep cultivation on this land, providing better products and services to our industry partners and better meeting customer needs. As the new year approaches, Intel will celebrate its 40th year in China next year. We look forward to jointly creating a new era of digitalization, intelligence, and greenness, opening a glorious chapter of new quality productivity," Wang said at the end of the speech.
