Nvidia Strikes Licensing Deal With Groq, Hires Founder as It Buys $20 Billion in Assets

Dec 24, 2025, 9:19 p.m. ET

Nvidia has signed a non-exclusive licensing agreement with AI chipmaker Groq and will hire Groq founder Jonathan Ross, president Sunny Madra and several other employees as part of the deal.

CNBC reported that Nvidia is acquiring assets from Groq worth about $20 billion, although Nvidia told TechCrunch that the transaction does not constitute an acquisition of the company and declined to comment on the scope or value of the agreement.

If CNBC’s figures are accurate, the deal would be Nvidia’s largest purchase to date. By securing Groq’s technology and key talent, Nvidia could further strengthen its dominance in the global AI chip market.
