AsianFin – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun said on Tuesday night that he felt profoundly sorrowful in the wake of a road accident that killed three female university students.

"My heart sank upon learning the accident that occurred on the night of March 29. The unfortunate loss of three young girls is incredibly heartbreaking. Such news is unbearable for their families, friends, and for all of us. On behalf of Xiaomi, I express my deepest condolences and offer sincere sympathies to their families.

“Our team quickly formed a special task force, went to the scene on March 30, and on March 31, we cooperated with the police to retrieve and submit the vehicle data we had,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday night.

Lei said Xiaomi has not had access to the vehicle involved in the accident, and many questions remain unanswered at this moment since the investigation is still underway.

In the statement, Lei pledged that Xiaomi will not evade responsibility. “We will continue to cooperate with the police investigation, follow up on the progress of the matter, and make every effort to respond to the concerns of the families and the public,” he said.
