AsianFin -- NASA announced on Tuesday that it will assign lunar cargo missions to SpaceX and Blue Origin, two leading companies in the space industry. Both companies had previously secured contracts with NASA to develop lunar landers for crewed missions to the Moon.
Under the new agreements, SpaceX and Blue Origin will also provide cargo versions of their lunar landers to transport large equipment and infrastructure to the Moon's surface. This will support the U.S. space agency's ongoing lunar exploration efforts.
NASA plans for SpaceX to deliver a pressurized rover, currently being developed by Japan's space agency JAXA, to the Moon no earlier than fiscal year 2032. This mission will support future Artemis missions, including Artemis 7 and beyond. Additionally, NASA intends to have Blue Origin deliver a lunar habitat no earlier than fiscal year 2033. These efforts are part of NASA's broader plans for sustained human presence on the Moon.
