Asianfin -- SpaceX, the aerospace manufacturer led by Elon Musk, has secured its first long-term battery supply agreement with a third-party provider, selecting LG Energy Solution Ltd. to provide batteries for its next-generation Starship rocket, according to industry sources on Sunday.
The U.S.-based company has signed a contract with LG Energy for cylindrical lithium-ion batteries specifically designed for the Starship flight, which is expected to launch as early as 2025, the sources told *The Korea Economic Daily*.
These batteries will be used for primary and backup power supply, as well as energy storage systems, though the supply volume and contract value have not been disclosed.
Previously, LG Energy had supplied batteries to SpaceX for its spacecraft on a one-off basis. However, SpaceX has predominantly relied on its in-house battery production for its flight vehicles.
