Asianfin -- As Donald Trump nears victory in the U.S. presidential election, China has reiterated its commitment to working with the U.S. based on mutual respect, while strategists foresee heightened superpower rivalry on trade, technology, and security issues.

"Our policy towards the U.S. remains consistent," said Mao Ning, a foreign ministry spokesperson, during a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

When asked about the potential impact of Trump's return to the Oval Office on U.S.-China relations, she emphasized, "We will continue to approach China-U.S. relations according to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful co-existence, and win-win cooperation."
