OpenAI Reportedly Plans Collaboration with Broadcom and TSMC to Develop In-House Chips

Oct 29, 2024, 10:48 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- OpenAI is reportedly collaborating with Broadcom and TSMC to create its first in-house chip to support its AI systems. The new chips will supplement NVIDIA's offerings and incorporate AMD technology to meet the increasing infrastructure demands.

OpenAI has explored various strategies for diversifying its chip supply and reducing costs. While the company considered in-house manufacturing and raising funds for an ambitious plan to establish a network of foundries, it has temporarily shelved the foundry initiative. Instead, OpenAI will focus on its internal chip design efforts.
