Asianfin--Italy is incorporating artificial intelligence into its education system as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government seeks to bridge the country's digital skills gap with other European Union nations.
Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara announced that AI-assisted software will be piloted in 15 classrooms across four regions. If successful, the initiative could be expanded to more schools. The AI tools, used on classroom tablets and computers, will serve as "virtual assistants," aiming to facilitate learning for students and help teachers tailor educational methods, Valditara told TGcom24 news channel.
According to Eurostat, Italy currently ranks low in basic digital skills among EU countries, performing slightly better than Latvia, Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania.
Details about the program remain sparse. The minister's office has yet to disclose which schools will participate in the trial or elaborate on how the technology will be implemented.
