Musk Announces Tesla's Supervised Full Self-Driving Could Launch in China by Year-End

AsianFin--Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has indicated that the company may introduce its supervised full self-driving (FSD) technology in China by December, following a disappointing second-quarter earnings report.

"Soon, we will seek regulatory approval for Tesla's supervised FSD in Europe, China, and other countries," Musk said during the Austin-based firm's earnings conference call on Wednesday. "We expect to receive this approval before the end of the year, which will drive demand in these regions."

Musk has consistently emphasized his commitment to launching FSD in China, the world's largest auto market. In April, he made an unexpected visit to the country and met with Chinese officials, including Prime Minister Li Qiang.

During the call, Musk also announced a delay in the global rollout of Tesla's robotaxi services, moving the launch from August to October. He attributed the delay to overoptimistic expectations and the need for significant improvements to the vehicle. "I wanted to make some important changes that I believe will enhance the vehicle, and we are also going to introduce a couple of other features," he explained.

When asked about the timeline for the first robotaxi rides, Musk responded, "I would be shocked if we cannot do it next year."
