Jul 17, 2024, 6:02 a.m. ET

AsianFin--BMW is recalling 1,145 vehicles in the United States due to concerns that the driver's side airbag inflator may explode during deployment, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported on Wednesday.

According to the NHTSA, the issue stems from a manufacturing defect that could potentially cause sharp fragments to strike the driver or other occupants.

The recall affects certain models including the 2015 6 Series Gran Coupe, 2014 5 Series Gran Turismo, and 2014 5 Series sedans.

The U.S. auto safety regulator announced that the driver's front airbag will be replaced at no cost.
