The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Wednesday accepted SpaceX's application for the construction of a non-geostationary satellite system and made it public.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said on social media that his agency welcomes SpaceX's submission of its orbital data center application and is now seeking public comments. The applicant indicates that the proposed system will be the first step toward achieving a Type II Kardashev civilization and can also enable other goals.

SpaceX submitted its application on January 30 for a project involving a satellite constellation with unprecedented computing power to support advanced AI models and their related applications. This satellite system is set to include up to 1 million satellites and create an orbital data center network surrounding the Earth.
