WeChat Security Center account on Wednesday released an announcement, stating that automatic opening of Yuanbao red envelope sharing link will be halted.

"We have received feedback and complaints from users regarding Yuanbao. Its related Spring Festival marketing activities involve inducing users to frequently share links to WeChat groups through methods such as 'completing tasks' and 'receiving red envelopes,' which disrupts the platform's ecological order, affects user experience, and causes harassment to users. After assessment, we have taken measures against Yuanbao's non-compliant links, restricting them from being directly opened within WeChat," said the announcement.

Some users noted that when they clicked on the Yuanbao red envelope sharing link in WeChat groups, a risk warning popped up: "The webpage contains content that induces sharing and following. Please long press the URL to copy it and access it via a browser."

The announcement indicated that the Yuanbao Spring Festival red envelope activity would continue until February 17. Regarding how subsequent activities will unfold, Yuanbao responded that they are urgently optimizing and adjusting the sharing mechanism and will launch it as soon as possible to ensure a better red envelope grabbing experience for users.
