ByteDance is expected to launched a new cellphone in mid-to-late Q2 of 2026 with the official version project of its Doubao mobile assistant released at the end of 2025, according to people familiar with the matter.

ByteDance has higher expectations for the new model, representing a significant upgrade from the first-generation test version.

In terms of its operating model, the second-generation Doubao phone will continue to be developed in partnership with ZTE Nubia, with ZTE responsible for the hardware and Doubao handling the AI capabilities. 

The Doubao phone team has reportedly been in negotiations with most major app developers. It has already reached agreements with some internet companies—such as ride-hailing, food delivery, and ticketing services—to obtain access to certain commonly used permissions.
