China’s state-owned aircraft manufacturer COMAC plans to increase production and deliveries of its C919 narrowbody jet this year, targeting the delivery of 28 aircraft or more, according to Chinese media reports.
The reports said that two C919 aircraft have already rolled off the production line just three weeks into the year, signaling a pickup in manufacturing momentum for the country’s first domestically developed narrowbody passenger jet.
The C919, positioned as a competitor to Airbus’s A320 and Boeing’s 737 families, has been a flagship project in China’s push to build a homegrown commercial aviation industry. Deliveries so far have been primarily to Chinese airlines, with the aircraft currently operating on domestic routes.
An increase in output would mark another step forward for COMAC as it works to scale production, expand airline adoption and narrow the gap with established global planemakers.
