U.S. billionaire Elon Musk has demanded compensation ranging from $79 billion to $134 billion from OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging that OpenAI abandoned its nonprofit mission and partnered with Microsoft, constituting fraud against him, according to media reports.
Both OpenAI and Microsoft have responded to the claims. A Microsoft lawyer said there is no evidence that the company “aided and abetted” OpenAI.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions over the direction and commercialization of artificial intelligence ventures originally founded with nonprofit intentions.
