U.S. Approves Nvidia’s H200 AI Chip Exports to China

Jan 13, 2026, 9:58 p.m. ET

The U.S. government has approved Nvidia to resume exports of its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China, a decision expected to restart shipments to Chinese customers after months of restrictions.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier said on social media that the government would allow Nvidia to sell its H200 AI chips to China. The exports will be subject to approval and security reviews by the U.S. Department of Commerce, according to people familiar with the matter.

The U.S. side will also charge a fee of about 25% on the transactions related to the sales, the sources said.

The move marks a significant easing of controls on one of Nvidia’s most advanced AI processors and could provide a boost to Chinese technology companies that rely on high-performance chips for training and deploying large artificial intelligence models.

Nvidia has not publicly commented on the scope or timing of the resumed shipments, and it remains unclear how many licenses will be approved or which Chinese customers will be eligible under the new arrangement.
