Microsoft’s Copilot chat platform in the United States now allows users to make purchases without leaving the chat interface, powered by programmable financial services provider Stripe, the companies said on Thursday.
The new feature, called Copilot Checkout, lets users buy products from Etsy sellers as well as major retailers including Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie directly within the chat window.
Stripe’s technology handles the embedded checkout experience, ensuring payments are processed seamlessly without redirecting users to separate websites. Microsoft said it integrates with Stripe via an API to generate the in-chat payment interface.
The update is part of a broader push to integrate AI-driven services with e-commerce, allowing conversational AI to not only provide recommendations but also facilitate transactions in real time.
By embedding the shopping experience natively within chat, Microsoft aims to streamline consumer interactions and reduce friction in online purchasing, potentially increasing engagement and sales through the Copilot platform.
