Elon Musk said artificial intelligence systems should be built around truth, curiosity and a sense of beauty, arguing that these three principles are essential to keeping AI aligned with human interests.
Musk made the remarks in a recent interview at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory with Singularity University founder Peter Diamandis and investor Dave Blundin.
“There are three things that matter most: truth, curiosity and beauty,” Musk said. “If AI values these things, it will value us. Truth prevents AI from going insane. Curiosity drives human progress, and if AI has a sense of aesthetics, the future will be very beautiful.”
Musk has repeatedly warned about the risks of uncontrolled artificial intelligence while simultaneously backing its development through ventures such as xAI, which he founded to compete with OpenAI and other major AI developers.
