Hesai Group, the world’s largest maker of automotive lidar sensors, has partnered with U.S. chipmaker Nvidia to support the development of an autonomous driving platform, as the Shanghai-based company accelerates its global expansion to serve more international automakers.
Hesai said on Tuesday that its light detection and ranging (lidar) sensors will be supplied for Nvidia’s Drive Hyperion platform, which is designed to meet Level-4 (L4) autonomous driving standards, enabling vehicles to operate without human intervention in defined conditions.
The company said the lidar models selected for the platform are already ready for mass production.
Hesai also said it plans to open its first manufacturing facility outside mainland China in Bangkok, with operations expected to begin in early 2027.
