Musk Says xAI Expands Infrastructure With Third Building to Boost Compute Capacity

Dec 30, 2025, 9:12 p.m. ET

Elon Musk said on Tuesday that his artificial intelligence startup xAI (XAAI.PVT) has acquired a third building to expand its computing infrastructure, aiming to increase its training capacity to nearly 2gigawatts of compute power.

The expansion highlights xAI’s effort to compete more aggressively with industry leaders such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude by training increasingly powerful artificial intelligence models.

xAI’s supercomputer cluster in Memphis, Tennessee, known as Colossus, is promoted by the company as the largest in the world.

“xAI has bought a third building called MACROHARDRR,” Musk wrote on social media platform X, without disclosing the location of the new facility. The name appears to be a play on Microsoft’s name.

xAI did not provide further details on when the new capacity would come online.
