ByteDance Plans Major Increase in Nvidia AI Chip Spending in 2026

Dec 30, 2025, 8:53 p.m. ET

ByteDance plans to spend about 100billion yuan ($14.29billion) on artificial intelligence chips from Nvidia in 2026, up from roughly 85billion yuan in 2025, if the U.S. chipmaker is allowed to sell its H200 graphics processing units in China, the South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday.

The planned increase reflects ByteDance’s expanding investment in AI infrastructure to support large language models, recommendation systems and generative AI applications across its platforms, including TikTok and Douyin.

The report said the purchases would depend on U.S. export control approvals, as Washington continues to restrict the sale of advanced semiconductors to China on national security grounds.

Neither ByteDance nor Nvidia commented on the report.
