Intel on Monday appointed a senior economic adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump as head of its government affairs, months after the U.S. government took a 10% stake in the chipmaker.
The company said Robin Colwell, who serves as deputy assistant to the president and deputy director of the National Economic Council, will lead Intel’s government affairs office. The role had been vacant since Bruce Andrews, a former Commerce Department official under ex-President Barack Obama, left the company following the U.S. elections in November.
The appointment comes as Intel deepens its engagement with Washington amid heightened government involvement in the semiconductor industry, driven by national security concerns and efforts to bolster domestic chip manufacturing.
