China Purchases First Argentine Wheat in Decades Amid Record Harvest

Dec 14, 2025, 10:04 p.m. ET

China is buying its first shipment of Argentine wheat in decades as farmers on the Pampas reap a record crop and President Javier Milei reduces tariffs to boost exports.

State-owned Cofco International Ltd. is loading the wheat at its Timbues facility in Argentina’s Paraná River export hub—the first cargo of its kind since the 1990s. The vessel will then pick up an additional 65,000 metric tons at an Atlantic port before sailing to China.
