SoftBank Group Corp. is evaluating potential acquisitions including data center operator Switch Inc., signaling founder Masayoshi Son’s ambition to capitalize on the AI-driven surge in demand for digital infrastructure, according to people familiar with the matter.
The Japanese conglomerate has held talks with Switch’s leadership and is conducting due diligence on the privately held company, the people said, requesting anonymity because the discussions are confidential. SoftBank has also entered advanced negotiations to acquire DigitalBridge Group Inc., one of Switch’s major private equity backers, Bloomberg News reported last week.
