Trump Criticizes Fed Rate Cut as “Too Small”

Dec 11, 2025, 3:59 a.m. ET

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the Federal Reserve’s recent decision to cut interest rates by 25 basis points “could have been at least twice as much.” He described Fed Chair Jerome Powell as “rigid” and characterized the rate cut as “quite small.”

At the same time, speculation over the next Fed leadership has resurfaced. Trump revealed plans to meet later Wednesday with former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Walsh. Market-implied probabilities indicate that previous frontrunner, White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, now has a roughly 70% chance of being selected, down from nearly 90% last week.
