Meta may release a new large language model named “Avocado” in the first quarter of 2026, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter, as the company intensifies competition with Google, OpenAI and other AI developers.

Market reports in June indicated that Meta executives — including CEO Mark Zuckerberg — had discussed scaling back investment in the company’s Llama series models and potentially adopting models developed by rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
