China State Planner Urges Humanoid Robot Firms to Avoid Repetitive Products

Nov 27, 2025, 3:13 a.m. ET

China’s top economic planner has called on domestic humanoid robot makers to avoid flooding the market with repetitive products, warning that such duplication could crowd out genuine research and development.

Li Chao, spokesperson for the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said at a Thursday press briefing that China now has more than 150 companies developing humanoid robots. He cautioned that speed and speculative bubbles remain persistent risks in the growth of frontier industries and must be carefully managed.

Separately, Li said the NDRC is pushing to expand the use of REITs to support investment in urban renewal projects, including infrastructure, hotels, sports venues and commercial office facilities.
