U.S. President Donald Trump plans to unveil a new initiative called the “Genesis Mission” at the White House next Monday as part of an executive order aimed at advancing U.S. artificial intelligence efforts, according to a senior Energy Department official.

Carl Coe, chief of staff at the Department of Energy, said on Wednesday that the initiative is meant to signal that the Trump administration views the coming AI race as comparable in importance to the Manhattan Project or the space race.

Coe declined to provide further details, but said the order may direct national laboratories to expand work on emerging AI technologies and could involve public-private partnerships.
