Dario Amodei, CEO of AI startup Anthropic, has once again warned that the rapid advancement of generative AI could “eliminate” half of entry-level white-collar positions within the next five years, potentially driving unemployment to 10%–20%.
Amodei singled out three particularly high-risk roles: junior consultants, trainee lawyers, and new financial analysts. AI systems are already capable of performing the core tasks typically handled by these positions, including drafting documents and conducting analyses.
He noted that his concern stems from observing that Anthropic’s AI model Claude has acquired the ability to handle complex end-to-end work, such as advanced customer support, technical writing, analyzing medical papers, and even generating nearly 90% of Anthropic’s internal source code.
