Freeport-McMoRan has announced plans to gradually restart and resume large-scale production at its Grasberg mine in Papua, Indonesia, starting in the second quarter of 2026.
The Grasberg mine, operated by Freeport’s Indonesian subsidiary PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), is the world’s second-largest copper mine and a major gold producer. Production at the site was temporarily halted following a landslide on September 8 this year.
By late October, two underground mines—the Big Gossan and Deep Mill—had already resumed operations ahead of the full-scale restart.
