China has informed Japan that it will suspend imports of Japanese seafood, Kyodo News reported, signaling that the diplomatic spat between the two countries remains unresolved and could further strain economic ties.

Beijing cited the need to monitor treated water releases from the Fukushima nuclear plant, according to an unidentified government official cited by Kyodo. The move comes just months after China lifted a similar ban in June.
