China Signals Tougher Retaliation Over Japan PM’s Taiwan Remarks

China is intensifying pressure on Japan after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments on Taiwan region, with state media warning of sweeping countermeasures as Beijing’s travel advisories raise concerns about potential economic retaliation.

Yuyuantantian, a social media account affiliated with China’s state broadcaster and often seen as an indicator of official thinking, posted a commentary over the weekend saying Beijing “has made full preparations for substantive retaliation.” The post suggested that possible measures could include sanctions, suspending economic, diplomatic and military exchanges, and imposing trade restrictions.
