House Passes Bill to End U.S. Longest Government Shutdown

Nov 12, 2025, 10:20 p.m. ET

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved legislation to end the country’s historic 43-day government shutdown, sending the bill to President Donald Trump for his signature.

The funding lapse had left federal workers unpaid, travelers stranded at airports, and families relying on food banks for meals.

Lawmakers returned to Washington this week after nearly eight weeks away. With a slim Republican majority, the party pushed the measure through largely along party lines, passing the bill 222-209.

In Colorado, all four Democratic House members opposed the legislation, while the state’s four Republican representatives voted in favor. The bill marks a key step in restoring federal operations and providing back pay to furloughed employees.
