Trump Warns of ‘Economic and National Security Disaster’ if Supreme Court Blocks Tariff Powers

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday warned that the United States would face an economic and national security “disaster” if the Supreme Court were to strike down his use of emergency powers to impose sweeping tariffs on nearly all countries.

Trump said his administration plans to issue a $2,000 payment to lower- and middle-income Americans funded by what he described as “tariff dividends,” with the remaining proceeds used to reduce U.S. national debt.

The president has previously floated the idea of distributing tariff revenues as a “dividend” to lower-income Americans. He reiterated the proposal both in a Truth Social post on Sunday and in remarks to reporters at the White House on Monday.

“We’re going to issue a dividend to our middle-income people and lower-income people — about $2,000 — and we’re going to use the remaining tariffs to lower our debt,” Trump said during the swearing-in ceremony of his new ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
