New Oriental Education & Technology Group founder Yu Minhong confirmed that Sun Dongxu, chief executive officer of East Buy Holding Ltd., has stepped down from his role, citing personal reasons.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Yu said he had encouraged Sun to remain with the company, expressing confidence in East Buy’s growth prospects and openness to Sun returning to a management position in the future. However, after “careful consideration,” Sun decided to leave, Yu said, adding that he respected the decision.

Yu emphasized that he and Sun “remain on good terms,” noting there were no disputes or tensions surrounding the departure.

East Buy, formerly known as Oriental Selection, is an online e-commerce platform spun off from New Oriental that gained popularity for its livestreaming sales business.
