U.S. Senate Fails Again to Approve Temporary Funding, Government Shutdown Poised to Set New Record

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday again failed to pass a stopgap funding bill, marking the 14th unsuccessful attempt.

As a result, the ongoing federal government shutdown—begun on October 1—stands to surpass the previous record 35-day shutdown (December 2018 to January 2019) and become the longest in U.S. history.
