Nintendo’s net profit soared 85% in the six months through September, driven by a surge in sales following the blockbuster launch of its Switch 2 console in June, the Kyoto-based video game maker said on Tuesday.
The company reported a net profit of 198.9 billion yen ($1.3 billion) for the April–September period, up from 108.6 billion yen a year earlier. Revenue more than doubled to nearly 1.1 trillion yen ($7.1 billion) from 523 billion yen in the same period last year.
Nintendo, best known for its Super Mario and Pokémon franchises, did not provide a quarterly breakdown of results. Analysts say the strong debut of Switch 2 helped offset slowing demand for the original model, reaffirming the company’s dominance in the global gaming console market.
