Lamborghini Delays All-Electric Urus to 2029, Opts for Plug-In Hybrid Amid Slower EV Adoption

Lamborghini will launch its next-generation Urus in 2029 as a plug-in hybrid instead of a fully electric model, reflecting slower-than-expected global adoption of battery electric vehicles, Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann said.

Speaking at a press conference on Oct. 22 to mark the 20th anniversary of Lamborghini’s entry into China, Winkelmann said the company is still weighing whether its upcoming fourth model will be all-electric or hybrid, with a final decision expected by the end of the year.

Lamborghini’s electrification roadmap is unfolding in two phases. The first began in March 2023 with the debut of the Revuelto, a V12 hybrid supercar, alongside the Urus SE and Temerario hybrids. The second phase, initially slated to introduce Lamborghini’s first fully electric model in 2028, has been postponed to 2030 as the automaker takes a more measured approach to full electrification.
