OpenAI CEO Says Company’s Actual Revenue Far Exceeds $13 Billion

Nov 02, 2025, 10:29 p.m. ET

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed optimism about the company’s financial performance during a recent podcast, claiming that the firm’s actual revenue far surpasses $13 billion, despite public estimates. He also said he would seize opportunities to respond to critics.

Altman’s comments come as OpenAI has announced major AI infrastructure partnerships with companies including Nvidia, Broadcom, and Oracle in recent weeks.

While OpenAI continues to raise billions from investors and generate increasing revenue, Altman cautioned that losses are expected to persist. Media reports analyzing Microsoft’s earnings suggest OpenAI may have incurred quarterly losses exceeding $12 billion, with Microsoft’s investment reducing its net profit by $3.1 billion.

Given Microsoft’s 27% stake in OpenAI, analysts estimate the AI firm’s net loss for the quarter at around $11.5 billion, with actual losses potentially exceeding $12 billion when factoring in pre-tax losses and prior higher stakes.
