China is poised to significantly increase imports of U.S. soybeans, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday, signaling progress in trade relations ahead of a possible meeting between the nations’ leaders.
Bessent’s remarks to CBS followed two days of discussions in Kuala Lumpur with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and other senior officials. The talks produced initial agreement on several bilateral issues, including agriculture, China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.
The development marks a fresh step by Washington and Beijing to stabilize ties after months of elevated tensions and pointed exchanges.
