Anthropic to Open South Korea Office as Asia Becomes Key Growth Engine

Oct 23, 2025, 11:02 p.m. ET

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic will open an office in South Korea as part of its accelerated expansion across Asia, a senior executive said on Thursday.

“Of Anthropic’s top five global users, three are in Asia — Korea, Japan, and India,” said Paul Smith, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Smith noted that Asia accounts for 25% of total usage of Anthropic’s AI coding tool, Claude Code, with South Korea hosting the most active user base. The number of weekly active users in the country has grown sixfold in the past four months, according to the company.

The move comes amid Anthropic’s broader international expansion, which aims to triple its global workforce to meet surging demand for its Claude large language models outside the United States.

“That growth is going to accelerate in 2026,” Smith said. “We’re focused on the enterprise business, and we’re now just approaching $7 billion in annualized revenue,” he added.
