Israeli startup NextSilicon, whose computing chips are under evaluation by U.S. national labs, announced on Wednesday that it is developing a central processor intended to compete with Intel and AMD and challenge Nvidia’s systems.
The company has raised $300 million in funding, and its flagship “Maverick-2” chip is designed to accelerate precision scientific computing tasks, including modeling nuclear weapons. While Nvidia once dominated this field, its recent focus on lower-precision computing for artificial intelligence has opened opportunities for startups like NextSilicon to fill the gap.
