Shanghai’s gross domestic product expanded 5.5 percent in the first three quarters of 2025, outpacing the national average, with strategic emerging industries posting strong growth.
The city’s GDP rose to 4.07 trillion yuan (USD571.4 billion) in the nine months ended Sept. 30, according to data released by the local statistics bureau on Tuesday. Over the same period, China’s GDP increased 5.2 percent to 101.5 trillion yuan (USD14.25 trillion), figures showed on Oct. 20.
In the first half of 2025, Shanghai’s economy grew 5.1 percent, slightly slower than the country’s 5.3 percent expansion.
