Major Websites and Apps Suffer Outages Linked to Amazon Web Services Disruptio

A widespread internet disruption impacted multiple major websites and applications globally on Sunday, with early reports indicating the issue is linked to problems within Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world's largest cloud computing providers.

Affected platforms include Amazon itself, social media app Snapchat, language-learning platform Duolingo, design tool Canva, and popular online games such as Fortnite and Roblox. Users reported difficulty accessing services, slow load times, or complete outages across these platforms.

According to AWS’s official service status page, the disruptions stem from increased “error rates and latency” affecting multiple services in the US-EAST-1 region — a critical data center hub located in Northern Virginia. AWS confirmed it is actively investigating the issues and working to resolve them as quickly as possible.

"AWS is experiencing elevated error rates and latency in the US-EAST-1 Region, and we are investigating the root cause," the company stated.

AWS powers a significant portion of the modern internet’s infrastructure, meaning even a localized issue can have ripple effects across the globe. While the full extent of the impact remains unclear, service interruptions have already sparked concern among developers, businesses, and users worldwide.
