Xiaomi’s Lei Jun Urges Auto Industry Unity, Calls for Curbing “Internet Chaos”

Oct 16, 2025, 10:49 p.m. ET

Lei Jun, founder and chairman of Xiaomi, called on the global auto industry to unite around technological innovation and push back against online misinformation and malicious competition, speaking Thursday at the 2025 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference in Beijing.

“The auto industry should work together to focus resources and efforts on technological innovation and to resist internet chaos, such as fake reviews,” Lei said, emphasizing that fair competition and collaboration are essential to sustaining long-term growth in the intelligent vehicle sector.

Lei’s comments come as China’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle and smart car markets face intensifying online rivalries, where brand wars and misinformation have occasionally overshadowed genuine technological progress.

He urged automakers to prioritize breakthroughs in core technologies — including intelligent driving, software systems, and power efficiency — while maintaining a healthy digital environment that supports transparent competition and consumer trust.

The Xiaomi founder, who has positioned his company as a major new entrant in the EV race, reiterated that innovation, cooperation, and integrity should be the guiding principles of the next phase of automotive development.
