China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced Thursday that its “Linglong One” — the world’s first land-based commercial multi-purpose modular small reactor at the Hainan Changjiang Demonstration Project — has successfully completed its first-circuit cold functional test.
The milestone underscores China’s growing capabilities in next-generation nuclear design, high-end equipment manufacturing, and complex engineering management, according to CNNC. The achievement is seen as a strategic step to cement China’s lead in the global small reactor market and establish the country’s modular small reactor technology as a recognized international brand.
The successful cold functional test sets the stage for the project’s next phases, including hot testing, reactor fuel loading, and eventual commercial operation. Analysts say the progress highlights China’s broader push into advanced nuclear energy as it seeks to meet growing domestic power demand while positioning itself as a key player in the global nuclear industry.
