Singapore plans to establish a regulatory body with the power to block harmful online content on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, part of a broader effort to tackle threats ranging from deep fakes to online harassment.

The newly formed Online Safety Commission will have the authority, after receiving reports from victims, to require platforms and mobile applications to remove material for users in Singapore, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Ministry of Law.
