Oct 15, 2025, 11:48 p.m. ET

Xiaomi launched a standalone short-drama application called “Weiguan Short Drama”, drawing attention with its main selling point of “ad-free, unlimited short dramas for free.” The app has already recorded over 20,000 downloads.

The app was developed by Chengdu Share Information Communication Co., Ltd. According to the Tianyancha database, the company is wholly owned by Beijing Juailiao Network Technology Co., Ltd., which in turn is fully held by Xiaomi Group. The company’s legal representative is Wang Chuan, who also serves as co-founder, senior vice president, and chief strategy officer of Xiaomi Group.

Currently, the app is available only to Xiaomi smartphone users and has not yet been launched on Apple iOS or other smartphone brands. The installation package is only 23MB, making it lightweight and easy to download.

In terms of content, Weiguan Short Drama offers a wide variety of genres, including urban, revenge, romance, CEO dramas, family ethics, and more than 20 other popular types. The app features rankings and comment sections to enhance user interaction and community engagement.

From a business perspective, unlike many free short-drama platforms that rely heavily on advertising for monetization, Xiaomi aims to differentiate itself with an ad-free viewing experience, attempting to build a competitive edge in the crowded short-drama market.
