China’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced on Tuesday that, together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and other government departments, it has launched an investigation into the impact and potential risks posed by the U.S. Section 301 investigation on the security and development interests of China’s shipping, shipbuilding, and related industrial and supply chains.

The probe will also assess whether any enterprises, organizations, or individuals have engaged in, assisted, or supported discriminatory or restrictive measures imposed by the United States on China’s shipping and shipbuilding sectors, the MOT said in a statement.

Based on the findings, Chinese authorities will introduce follow-up measures “as appropriate,” the ministry said.

The MOT encouraged relevant enterprises, industry associations, and individuals to submit information, provide leads, and offer feedback and suggestions during the investigation period.
