Qualcomm Admits Failure to Inform China of Acquisition

Oct 12, 2025, 10:08 p.m. ET

U.S. semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm has admitted that it did not inform Chinese authorities upon completing its acquisition of Israel’s Autotalks in June, as revealed by China’s market regulator on Sunday.

This disclosure came just two days after China initiated an antitrust investigation into Qualcomm, probing whether the U.S. company violated China’s antitrust laws by failing to disclose certain details regarding its acquisition of the Israeli chip designer.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) stated that it had notified Qualcomm in March 2024that the deal required regulatory approval. However, Qualcomm informed SAMR that it would not pursue the deal further. Despite this, Qualcomm went ahead and completed the acquisition in June without notifying the authorities.

The regulator noted that Qualcomm has since “acknowledged” these facts, leading Beijing to launch the antitrust investigation.
